The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking. Your chats disappear the day after the game.
An anonymous user ID. The first time you open Fanroom it creates a random ID so the app can remember you on that phone. It isn't linked to who you are.
Your nickname and team pick. A randomly generated nickname (which you can change once), and, if you choose one, the team you're rooting for in a game.
Chat messages and rooms. What you send in a game's chat and which chat rooms you were in.
Reports and blocks. If you report a message or block someone, we keep a record so we can hide abusive messages and never put you in a group with people you've blocked.
"Still here" signals. While a chat is open, the app lets our server know you're still there (about every 20 seconds) so others can see who's online.
Our hosting providers also keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and request times) for security and troubleshooting. Fanroom does not collect your location, contacts, photos or payment details.
Only to run Fanroom: to put you in a chat with other fans watching the same game, deliver messages in real time, and keep chats safe. An automatic filter removes links and slurs. A message you report disappears from your chat right away, and we review every report within 24 hours, removing the message and banning the sender. A message reported by three different people is hidden for everyone and its sender is muted in that chat.
Chat messages are deleted automatically 24 hours after the game ends and its chat closes.
If a message is hidden after reports, its original text is kept privately for moderation and is never shown to other users.
Your anonymous ID, nickname, reports and blocks are kept while you use Fanroom. Ask us and we'll delete them.
The other fans in your chat see your nickname, team badge and messages. To run the service we use Supabase (database and real-time chat) and Vercel (hosting), which process data only on our behalf. Live scores come from ESPN's public scoreboard; we don't send ESPN any information about you.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Fanroom is a chat app with other people and is for adults 18 and over. It isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 is using Fanroom, contact us and we'll delete their data.
You can stop using Fanroom at any time by deleting the app. To ask for a copy of your data or have it deleted, email us. Because there are no accounts, include your nickname and roughly when you used Fanroom so we can find it.
If Fanroom's data practices change, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change.
