A plain description of what Roah does with your information. The short version: it all stays on your device.
Everything Roah does happens on your iPhone or iPad:
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your pages | The text of pages you scan, choose from Photos, or paste. Photos themselves are not saved. | So you can come back to a page later |
| Tapped word types | A score for each kind of word you look up (like "name" or "long word"), which fades over time | So Roah can mark more of the kinds of words you find hard |
| Settings | Text size, how many words to mark, your chosen voice, and how many free pages you've used | So the app remembers your preferences |
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. Text recognition uses Apple's on-device Vision framework, and word pronunciation uses your device's built-in voices.
If you unlock Roah, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Roah only asks the App Store on your device whether the unlock has been purchased. We never see your name, Apple ID, or payment details.
Roah asks for camera access only so you can take a picture of a page. When you choose a photo, you pick exactly which one Roah can see. Photos are read on your device and are not stored or uploaded.
Swipe left on a page in Roah to delete it. In Roah's Settings, "Forget tapped words" clears what Roah has learned. Deleting the app removes everything. Because nothing is stored on a server, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Roah is made for general readers and doesn't collect data from anyone, including children.
If a future version of Roah changes how it handles data, we'll update this page and the date above before that version is released.
